DETAILED ITINERARY

Kabyayi - Nyanza - Huye

It was established as a Catholic Church mission in 1905. It became the center for the Roman Catholic Church in Rwanda and is the site of the oldest cathedral in the country and of Catholic seminaries, schools and a hospital.
We proceed to Nyanza the ancient royal capital of the Kingdom of Rwanda, where we visit the traditional palace of Mwami Rudahigwa, the first Rwandan king to be baptised. The Roman Catholicism took hold in Rwanda during his reign (1931 – 1959). We take on this opportunity to see the King’s majestic Inyambo (Ankole) cows with the big horns.
The Cathedral of Butare is the largest cathedral in Rwanda, which was built in the 1934 when Butare (known then as Astrida after 1935) was the colonial capital to commemorate the life of Astrid of Sweden Queen consort of the Belgians until 1935.

Overnight at Mater Boni Consilii Hotel (3 star) Kibeho and return to Kigali

Kibeho is highly considered by believers as a place of pilgrimage and encounter for all who seek Christ and who come there to pray, a fundamental center of conversion, of reparation for the sins of the world and of reconciliation, a point of meeting for all who were dispersed, as for those who aspire to the values of compassion and fraternity without borders. Today the site is host to pilgrims throughout the year with two majors dates dominating the calendar – Assumption Day (15th August) and 28th November (the anniversary of the Virgin Mary’s appearance).
The National Ethnographic museum is a very rich exhibition of theg the ancient Rwandan lifestyle covering agriculture, hunting, animal husbandry, weaving, pottery, woodwork and architecture.
HVP Gatagara was founded in 1959 by Belgian Father Joseph Fraipont with funding from Misereor. HVP Gatagara has been the first and only center for the care, education and reintegration of the disabled person.
